In the early hours of last Thursday, 153 Carey turtle eggs nested on the beaches of the Malecón, near 80th Street, were sheltered and recovered.

The action was led by Biologist Juan Lara, head of the Program of Attention and Rehabilitation of Marine Turtles of the Coast of Yucatan (PARTMACY) of CETMAR, Gabriel Luna, Josué Luna, Juan Lara and Linda Ahvenniemi collaborators of the biologist were also present. The project was supported by the Municipal Police.

The Coordinator of Ecology of the Municipality of the port, Edilberto Quezada Domínguez, explained that the nesting season began in April and will end in October, so he urged the population to give notice to the corresponding authorities when they find turtles spawning.

And he asked the public to respect the arrival of the turtles, avoiding loud noises and the use of flashes.

“Let’s respect that natural spectacle of the turtle and give notice to the corresponding authorities for its rapid protection,” he concluded.
