29 deaths attributed to influenza in Yucatan

The health sector of Yucatan reported that there have been 29 deaths from influenza, after the death of two people from that virus.

Local health authorities indicated that the deceased were a 9-month-old baby from Mérida, and an person 71 years old from the municipality of Tzucacab, located in the south of the State.

At a press conference led by the director of Prevention and Health Protection of SSY, Manuel Jesus Paredes Aguilar, it was noted that cases of influenza in the State are down.

According to the report of the Federal Ministry of Health, so far this year 315 confirmed cases have been recorded, as well as 29 deaths caused by that disease in Yucatan.

Also the director of Prevention and Health Protection said that in October will begin a new vaccination campaign against influenza, for the winter period.

He assured that there will be enough supply of medicines for these tasks: approximately 640 thousand doses.

He commented among other things that in more than 86 percent of deaths there was comorbidity, that is, conditions that complicate the initial diagnosis.

According to the report of the Federal Ministry of Health, at the national level, Yucatán is the state that has the highest number of deaths from influenza with 54 percent of cases, followed by Quintana Roo with 17 percent, (9 deaths) and Chiapas with 4 percent (2 deaths).
