BACKLASH: Homes of anti-noise activists vandalized with Nazi graffiti

Residents of Merida’s HISTORICAL CENTER denounced the painting with Nazi symbols and profanity on walls and poster signs placed in homes where the owners are protesting the excessive noise generated by bars and nightclubs that feature music until late at night.

In the spray-painted graffiti, the Nazi swastika can be seen, as well as words such as “p …” and two stripes that try to form a letter X.

As we have informed, inhabitants of the center of the Yucatan capital have expressed their disagreement with the noise generated by the bars that have opened in the neighborhood with the pretext of attracting tourism and revitalizing the economy of that area.

The nonconformists have claimed not to be able to sleep because of the noise, a situation that has led to a general malaise in their state of health, so they demand that the authorities take action on the matter and not allow loud music after 11:30 p.m.

However, the owners of several bars and nightclubs have argued that the music is not “noise” and that their establishments generate hundreds of jobs.

So far the Merida City Council has not commented formally on the reports of vandalism on at least three homes that had outdoor posters that denounced excess noise in the historic center of Merida.
