Fed up with noise, Centro residents again demand action from the mayor

Residents of the Historical Center once again demand action to curb the noise of bars and establishments; They appeal to the municipal president, who offers to meet with them to work on the issue…//

In the framework of Citizen Wednesday, foreigners and owners of houses near bars with live music in the historic center came to ask  Merida Mayor Renán Barrera Concha to resolve the problem created by the noise issued by these establishments, which besides affecting them in their rest and health, has impacted the value of their properties. The home owners believe that in the case that they wanted to sell them, they would not be paid for them justly.

“I’m happy to live in Merida, I’m very lucky, I do not want to leave here, my colleagues either, that’s why we came to talk to the mayor, who offered that in a week he will meet with us to review the new regulation and make his contributions, before it passes through the City Council and approve the provisions that must abide by these businesses,” explained the interviewee identified as Ronald.

He stressed that they are not against the functioning of these places that are also sources of employment, but they ask that measures reducing problems to the neighbors be undertaken, as it could be provided by sound insulation.

“We hope that now, after five years of struggling with this situation, we will see a change with the new government,” he said.

Another of the affected said that there are many more impacted who are afraid to demonstrate, since they have had verbal confrontations with establishments who have even filed criminal lawsuits against those who are promoting these actions to reestablish tranquility.

“We already had reprisals. They painted the German (Nazi) graffiti on facades, and for us as Europeans that is very serious. For that action my relatives did not want to come to spend their vacations with me, because that symbol has a hate message against which my father and my father-in-law fought in the resistance,” said the interviewee who asked to be identified as “We are all Merida.”
