Fierce downpour surprises and cools Merida; heat returns today

The entrance of a “norte” storm into the Mérida region early on Tuesday morning surprised many residents, especially motorists on their way to work during the morning rush hour.

But the violent downpour did have the benefit of bringing a brief temperature cool-down after the soaring thermometers of previous recent weeks.

The entrance of the Cold Front 49 surprised Meridanos that circulate through streets, avenues and the peripheral highway which meant driving with wet pavement and extreme caution.

The climate cool-down, with temperatures between 25 and 31 ° C, continued through Tuesday, but today Wednesday intense heat is expected to return to the region.

In the event of similar sudden storms, Civil Protection recommends safeguarding and disconnecting electronic devices. Motorists are asked to take special care of their distance, reduce speed and turn on their vehicles’ flashing lights.
