RIO LAGARTOS, Yucatan — A tragic auto accident occurred Friday evening at the junction of the Rio Lagartos-Las Coloradas highway.
According to preliminary data, a bus from the Northeast line was traveling from south to north from Rio Lagartos, and when it arrived at the intersection it hit a Hyundai car that was traveling from east to west. The compact Hyundai allegedly ran the stop sign without stopping.
In the Hyundai car, four people of French origin were traveling; all were trapped in the car.
Police, paramedics and firefighters arrived at the site, after several minutes managed to rescue two of the injured who were taken to San Carlos Hospital in an SSP ambulance. The victims were reported dead on arrival at the hospital
Two more were taken in an ambulance from the Red Cross to San Carlos de Tizimín Hospital, where their condition was reported as serious Saturday.
Emergency officials were working at the scene on Saturday.
