Grammy-nominated guitarist and distinguished cellist in recital at La Cúpula Tuesday Jan. 15

On Tuesday January 15, at 8 pm, Merida’s La Cúpula Cultural Center will present the recital, “From Bach to Brazil,” by cellist Rebecca Hartka and Grammy-nominated guitarist José Lezcano.

This exclusive recital will be performed within the historic monument “The Dome” at La Cúpula, Calle 54 x 41 y 43, Colonia Centro. Admission is 350 pesos per person and requires a mandatory reservation.

From Bach to Brazil these two performers will create and explore the intersection of styles and cultures.

Cellist Rebecca Hartka and Grammy-nominated guitarist and composer José Lezcano have been praised by the American Record Guide for their collaboration: “Hartka and Lezcano play subtle and effective rubatos together that give the sonatas a personality that delights ears and captures the attention of their audience.” (D. Moore, American Record Guide).

The Duo has been performing since 2014 in places such as Longy School of Music, Arts Block, North Hall Arts Festival, Tedx Keene and Keene State College. In March 2017, the duo presented and taught master classes in Havana, Cuba at the invitation of UNEAC for the Cello Festival of Havana.

Their first album was made in the fall of 2017 with Becsta Records. Michael Johnson said in CD Facts and Arts that the duo “shows a high degree of heart and complete control” and that he was “captivated by their virtuosity.”
