Hilton, Marriott to open 88 new hotels in Mexico

Over the next three years, the Marriott and Hilton hotel brands are scheduled to build 88 new hotels in Mexico, according to a report on TravelPulse.com.

Mexico Secretary of Tourism Enrique de la Madrid told Reportur.com that 44 of the new hotels will be operated by Marriott and the other 44 by Hilton, but he did not reveal the locations or estimated cost of the construction projects.

The new hotels will help grow the standing of both companies in the beach areas and city destinations throughout the country, including Mexico City and Guadalajara.

The future construction plans were revealed by Hilton CEO Christopher Nasetta and Mariott CEO Arne Sorenson at the 18th Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council.

Marriott already owns 77 hotels in Mexico under the Courtyard, JW Marriott and The Ritz-Carlton brands, and Hilton owns 55 facilities. The new openings over the next three years will add about 10,000 new rooms for the companies.

In addition to the commitment from the Marriott and Hilton brands, Madrid said the Hyatt Hotels Corporation also has expansion plans in Mexico, but details on the number of scheduled openings were not revealed.
