Merida English Library — already halfway to its $1.5 million peso expansion goal — will hold a fundraising silent auction on Tuesday Jan. 29.
MEL’s ambitious expansion and renovation projects are already underway. But the library hopes to double the amount it has raised so far in order to complete the major overhaul planned for its building on Calle 53 in Centro.
“The support from the community has been great so far,” commented MEL Administrator Susanna McKibben. “We have a broad base in the community.”
The Silent Auction is set for Tuesday Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Merida home of Greg Casini, MEL board president. Tickets cost $300 pesos and are available at the library.
McKibben said featured items to be auctioned include a trip to Spain, a weekend at the Riviera Maya and excursions to various locations in Yucatan and elsewhere. Among a wide variety of other auction items are Spanish classes, a Persian dinner, massages, chocolate, books, wine and much more.
