Yucatan’s Sefotur reports increases in almost all areas of the tourism sector…//

In the last 11 years, tourism in Yucatan has increased by 5.3% with a total of 15.5 million domestic and foreign visitors from 2006 to 2017, and of all the cities in Mexico, Merida is in fourth place among the destinations preferred by international tourism, according to the prestigious magazine Travel + Leisure.

During the first session of the State Tourism Advisory Council, which was attended by representatives of the business sector, academia and civil society in general, the Secretariat of Tourism Promotion (Sefotur) presented data on the state of this sector in Yucatan, which show increases in almost all areas.

According to Sefotur indicators, in 2017 Mérida reached an average of 63.5% hotel occupancy, being in third place nationally among the cities of the interior of the country, while to date the entity already has 13 thousand 257 rooms of lodging, which represents an increase of 49.5% compared to 2006.

In addition, Yucatán has 65 ecotourism products and 27 archaeological zones open to the public, which were visited by 29.1 million people, with an annual growth of 8.4%.

Sefotur Secretary Saúl Ancona Salazar reported that the magazine Travel + Leisure again placed Mérida within the 10 best tourist destinations, chosen by the residents of the United States and other countries that receive the publication. .

The Yucatecan capital is in fourth place just behind San Miguel de Allende, Oaxaca and Guadalajara, with a rating of 85.81%.

During the session, Sefotur also presented the Tourist Observatory of Yucatan, which will have the data of the sector in one place, both in hotel occupancy and in the number of visitors arriving by air and land transport, among others.
