THE SECRETARY OF TOURIST DEVELOPMENT, Saúl Ancona Salazar, acknowledged that there is currently a lack of available seats, a situation that depends a lot on the airlines. “It’s very complicated to tell an airline to change my flight,” he said.

“These are the good problems, as we always say in tourism, but obviously we work with the airlines because they have limited capacity of their equipment and routes; However, we will continue working with it,” he added.

In general terms, he said, events are taking place in Merida including national, regional and local, so it will be a good opening year for the International Convention Center (CIC).

Since its inauguration, 25 conventions have been registered and 20 more have been worked on. “There are many local events, and that is important to limit it, our market has approached and obviously you have to attend to them,” he said.

In the coming days, the International Center will open its doors to host two important events with 4,400 people for three days, and the National Congress of Infectology where 800 to 1,200 people are expected.

On the subject of flights, he reiterated that the Mérida air connection with the state of Querétaro starts operations in mid-June through the airline TAR, as well as the direct flight with Tuxtla Gutiérrez with Viva Aerobús.

On whether the World Cup or elections could influence summer vacations, he commented that these are external issues, so it is not known if there will be a direct impact.
