Needed efforts to restore Progreso’s centro bog down

The project to rescue and change the image of the central core of the city and port of Progreso was one of the first proposed by Mayor Julián Zacarías Curí, and although this project started quickly, today it is detained and plagued with delays.

The painting of building facades under a range of colors approved by INAH began in October, and was planned to be completed in December; However, to date the painting works are not finished, missing some parts of the two schools in the center of the port, the primary “Candelaria Ruz Patrón” and the primary “Filemón Villafaña”.

Although from the beginning of the project Mayor Julian Zacarias commented that the success would depend on the managers and owners of properties and businesses, there is no explanation of why the project has been slow in concluding the painting of the schools. But what is a fact is that the City Council concentrated more on finishing the project of the Morelos Park, leaving in a pause the painting work.

In spite of the delays in the schools, the painting continued in the pedestrian crossings of 31st Street with 80 and 78, which were painted over in red and yellow, and in addition were painted with fish figures. These are the port’s first pedestrian crossings to have a decoration, giving a good image to the central core of the city.

So far the authorities have not commented on when they should complete the work, which already took about three months.
