No abnormal ‘outbreak’ of influenza in Yucatan: health official

Yucatan’s Deputy Director of Public Health, Mirza Tec Kumul, said that the 18 cases of influenza that have been registered in the state are in the range of “normal”, so she asked the public not to be alarmed.

She even said that in this season, the cases of influenza that have occurred in Yucatan are below those registered last year, and there is no cause for alarm.

She noted that Yucatán is among the states where there is a significant number of cases of influenza, at this time the number of patients affected and registered is 18, a figure lower than in 2017 when a total of 36 cases were counted.

She pointed out that influenza is a normal condition in this type of tropical climate and that measures have been taken to maintain vigilance over the development of this type of disease.

She recalled that in case of feeling symptoms or possible affectations due to this type of diseases, it is important not to self-medicate and go to the doctor for a professional diagnosis.

She said that the health agency maintains a constant monitoring on the number of cases reported by the different sources of public and private health of the state to know the development of this disease.

She reported that in this month 6 cases of influenza of the type N1H1 have been reported.

Important to remember is that if going to open places where there is possibly contact with vectors, people must protect the most vulnerable population from this type of diseases.
