Progreso mayor denies that city council neglects outlying communities

PROGRESO — In a recent press conference, council members of the municipality of Progreso offered an explanation to the situation that is presented by three commissioners, who publicly denounced lack of support from the municipality to their communities.

Gaudencio Damián Cab, Blanca Bibiana Chin and Carlos Macedonio Zapata, commissioners of Chuburná, Chelem and Chicxulub, respectively, met with the state representation of the Morena party in the city of Mérida and together with the party they publicly exposed accusations against Mayor Julián Zacarías. The complaints include alleged lack of support for their localities and threats by the mayor to the aldermen.

Due to the above, the port councilors together with the municipal trustee gave an explanation in the municipal palace, where the secretary of the commune Alfredo Salazar Rojo informed that they reject the actions of the commissioners and deny these accusations, since they assure that they have worked in outlying communities with works of street patching, changing street lights, renovation of parks and cemeteries, among others.

As for the actions of the commissioners, the secretary of the commune said he will act according to the law, since not only did they act incorrectly making it a more partisan issue, but they also abandoned their positions during work hours. He said he will warn them and did not rule out a possible dismissal of the charge.

In his speech, Zacarías Curi commented that he will meet with the council members to discuss the issue, however he reiterated that the support is being given and will continue to be carried out, only that the fundraising of the fairs will not be granted to the commissaries since that will have to enter the treasury.

This situation, according to the mayor, is what probably angered the commissioners and led them to make such complaints.
