After the sudden death of Antonio Marín y Aguilar, the official host of the vaquerías, the serenatas yucatecas of Santa Lucia and other Merida cultural programs, municipal director of Culture Irving Berlín Villafaña said it is planned to award him posthumously the Prize for Citizen Culture.
The previous award was made to the also deceased sports chronicler Russel Gutiérrez, this almost at the end of 2018. So the official said that so that as soon as possible a special tribute will be organized for Maestro Marín, depending on what Mayor Renán Barrera Concha determines should be done.
“We have a lot to recognize, we gave him recognition in life, when he completed 29 years of work in Santa Lucia. We do not have to thank him for everything he did for our city, he did his work in a neat, professional and enlightened way, it will be difficult to find his replacement,” he said.
The traditional events are the face of Merida, so the director of Culture said that whoever is in charge of them, must also speak well, love the city and know our traditions in detail, including music and jarana dance.
“The serenade scheduled in Santa Lucia will be conducted by Rodolfo Chuc, a well-known radio broadcaster who is also an employee of the City Council, but it will be a situation that will have to be well thought out,” said Berlin Villafaña, who added that in what remains of the month of January and perhaps in the following month, in all the cultural events there will be a minute of applause for Maestro Marín.
“We want to tell you posthumously that we appreciate your work, that there is no doubt that the affection that you had for your profession and the city is the same affection that we have for you,” he said.
Mayor Renán Barrera Concha did not attend the inauguration of the Cultural Policies Colloquium for the cities of the 21st century, which takes place within the framework of the Mérida Fest, since he accompanied the Marín’s family during bereavement.
