U.S. Consul to field questions at MEL event Thursday

“Cookies with the Consul” is how an event set for Thursday March 21 at Merida English Library is being billed by its joint promoters — the U.S. Consulate in Merida and MEL itself.

Courtney Beale, U.S. Consul General in Merida, will take questions from U.S. expats and visitors in an informal setting. Beale is even promising to bake cookies for the event herself.

The event, set for 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the MEL courtyard, is intended to provide an easy way for U.S. citizens to learn about what services the Consulate offers, without having to be subjected to the security and red tape associated with a formal appointment at the U.S. Consulate building on Calle 60, said Adriana Medina, MEL administrator.

“We are looking into hosting similar events for the Canadian and British communities with the Canadian and U.K. Consulates,” Medina said.

This Thursday’s event with Beale is free and open to the public.
