U. S. consulate brings jazz band “Drew Tucker & The New Standard” to Merida

The American group Drew Tucker & the New Standard arrives in Yucatán and Quintana Roo sponsored by the United States Consulate in Mérida to participate in various cultural activities, organized in conjunction with the City Councils of Mérida in Yucatán, Solidaridad and Benito Juarez in Quintana Roo, as well as the Tourist Promotion Council of Quintana Roo as part of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival.

Drew Tucker & The New Standard, is a jazz group from Florida, that uses the vibraphone  (similar to the marimba) mixing sounds with influences of hip-hop, soul and funk. They come to the region from the Cultural Program of the Department of State of the United States American Music Abroad and the Consulate of the United States, to promote ties between people and cultures through music.

The groups activities include presentations, concerts and master classes.

Monday December 3 in Mérida, concert 5:00 pm at the Cultural Center of the South in collaboration with the Culture Department of the City of Mérida, at: 165 street No. 304E, Colonia Emiliano Zapata Sur III.

Tuesday December 4 in Mérida, concert 8:30 pm at the Olimpo Cultural Center in collaboration with the Culture Department of the City of Mérida, located at Calle 62 x 61, Colonia Centro.

Drew Tucker & The New Standard has proposed as a mission to make its distinctive and unusual instruments more accessible to its fans and to a larger population: the vibraphone and the tuba. The leader and educator Drew Tucker directs the movement to reinvent the vibraphone: a dynamic instrument that he combines with influences from soul, funk, jazz and hip-hop to captivate audiences across the country. Drew has revitalized underserved neighborhoods through the creation of arts centers and was the driving force behind the development of the Arts Garage in Delray Beach, the Bailey and Ali Cultural Arts Center and the Old School Square. He has done tours and lectures with seven-time Grammy winner Shaun Martin, and is a leading instrument instructor on drumsticks, conducting percussion at Boca Raton, Dreyfoos School of Arts, and West Broward High Schools.
