Dollar breaks 21-peso barrier

The US dollar has exceeded the exchange-rate barrier of 21 pesos in banks.

In BBVA Bancomer, the American currency sold at 21.10 pesos, while in Citibanamex it was sold up to 21.00 pesos.

In the wholesale market it sold at 20.69 pesos, 0.56% lower than at the close of Monday.

The Mexican currency was pressured by tensions in the international market, particularly by outbreaks of a US-led trade war. Some analysts predict that as the elections approach in Mexico, there will be greater volatility.

In turn, the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) set at 20.5960 pesos the exchange rate to settle obligations denominated in foreign currency payable in the Mexican Republic.
