HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY FROM MID-POINT!

MID-POINT brings you this drawing by Rulo as our Valentine’s Day present.

Legend has it that a jealous father was the originator of Yucatan’s romantic and iconic “Sillas Tú y Yo” (You and I Seats) that are found throughout Merida parks and in other towns around the state.

According to legend, the father, a wealthy henequén hacienda owner, was jealous of the attention paid by his daughter to a suitor, a poor young troubadour. Worried that his daughter’s visits with the troubadour in a local park would become too passionate, the father ordered construction of a pair of joined seats that would allow close conversation without permitting touching of the bodies of the couple.

Whether or not this is truly how they came about, Yucatan’s Sillas Tú y Yo are a romantic icon, a must-see for any visitor to the state.
