The National System of Epidemiological Surveillance (Sinave) points out that although so far no deaths have been reported from this disease recently, it claimed the lives of 39 people in Yucatan last winter season.

Nationwide, Sinave reports that 267 cases of influenza with 9 deaths have been recorded; the state of Veracruz is where most deaths have occurred due to complications of the illness, as well as confirmed cases, followed by Chiapas with two deaths.

The majority of cases have been influenza A H1N1, followed by influenza type B.

The Ministry of Health of Yucatan (SSY) already has the necessary vaccines to prevent influenza in the state, so the vulnerable population is asked to go to health centers to access the vaccination.

He said that the population of adults over 66 years, children under 6 years, people with chronic diseases and pregnant women are those who must obtain the vaccine on a mandatory basis.

Other preventive measures include, antibacterial gel, as well as hand washing and covering the face when sneezing.
