Mexicans now have the right to possess firearms at home

The inhabitants of the United Mexican States now have the right to possess arms in their homes, for security and legitimate defense.

The document, published this week by the Ministry of the Interior and issued by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on March 22, in its article 10 states that Mexicans may not possess in their homes weapons prohibited by Federal Law and those reserved for the exclusive use of the permanent Armed Forces and the reserve corps.

The decree, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), states in its article 10 that “By law the federal government will determine the cases, conditions, requirements and places in which the inhabitants are permitted the carrying of arms.”
