New ‘Gastrobus’ combines a Merida tour with good eats

Because visiting the various high points of Merida is not enough, a new tourist concept comes to the city: it is the Gastrobús, an entrepreneurial project promoted by Jorge Talavera Aguilar, with which you can delight your palate with iconic Yucatecan cuisine.

“We are starting with this new concept in the city of Mérida, it is a service focused mainly on tourism. We want to kill two birds with one stone, take a tour in the city visiting the main tourist spots in the heart of the city,” he told reporters.

The journey takes about one hour and 40 minutes, depending on the traffic. During the tour, visitors will sample from a menu of Yucatecan dishes, providing the opportunity to taste most of the vast and rich regional gastronomy.

The tasting starts with a snack, followed by a lime soup, poc-chuc, stuffed cheese, black stuffing, cochinita, queen’s arm, ending with a papaya sweet with ball cheese, and free consumption of natural beverages. There are nine characteristic dishes. “It’s a novel way for tourists to get to know the main dishes.”

The tours are available from Monday to Saturday, starting from 63rd Street, south side of the Plaza Grande of the Historical Center, with two trips, 12:15 and 2:30 in the afternoon.

There is also the possibility of making special trips requested by customers for example, a delegation that arrives at the airport.

The fee of 600 pesos, seniors 500 pesos and children, 400 pesos, includes the food, the tour, a bilingual guide who will give the tour in English and Spanish. Visitors can also implement the tour in other languages such as German, Italian, French and Mandarin.
