Mayor proposes renovation of Progreso’s ‘malecón’

Mayor Julián Zacarías Curi seeks to renovate the traditional malecón or boardwalk of the port of Progreso, as part of the tourism infrastructure makeover proposed for the municipality.

In order to renovate the boardwalk in the coming months, recently the mayor met with malecón business people, to expose the integral project that is scheduled to run in the month of May in that area, in coordination with the governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, in order to improve and boost the summer resort.

Faced with the need to repair and dignify the traditional boardwalk named after “Romero Frías Bobadilla”, state and municipal authorities have joined efforts to manage and propose actions to improve the image of the port.

In this regard, the mayor summoned more than 50 entrepreneurs who have establishments along the boardwalk to encourage them to participate in these actions and increase the possibilities of improving the infrastructure of the area.

“In these days we are going to deliver a model so that they know the works that are intended to be carried out: bike paths, showers, palapas, as well as reforestation are contemplated,” said Zacarías Curi, adding that the Casa de la Cultura will also be working to make it a tourist attraction.

The project, as stated, will be an investment of great importance for all so it will also be necessary the collaboration of the owners, through certain adjustments that must be made to their establishments and thus achieve the desired results.

During the meeting, the businessmen expressed their support to the mayor, and there were even those who suggested and pointed out the needs that both they and their clients have. To which Zacarías Curi responded that the project intends to cover these needs.
