Wikipedia inspires creation of “Mayapedia”

The “Mayapedia”, an Internet site that will house the largest amount of information about this ancient civilization in the world, is a project sponsored by the Board of the Cultural and Tourism Units of Yucatan (Cultur) and the Mayan Studies Center “Yuri Knórosov” (Cemyk).

This platform, so far in Russian but with planned English and Spanish translations, will concentrate the publications that specialists and the academy carry out in different spaces, which is why, in many cases, it remains unknown to a broad public. In addition, it will be accessible to researchers, students and the general public, explained the Director General of Cultur, Mauricio Díaz Montalvo, and the head of Cemyk, Galina Ershova.

In its first phase of concentrating all possible data, the “Mayapedia” will include topics of archeology, epigraphy, ethnology, history and physical anthropology, just to mention a few.

It is like the Wikipedia, but focused on the Mayan culture, with the difference that those involved are scientists and scholars with wide recognition in various parts of the world such as Russia, Spain, the United States, Germany and Mexico.

As part of the tasks of linking, Cemyk has extended an open invitation to scholars, as well as universities and research centers, to send their contributions in order to integrate them into this compendium, which will be of international interest.

At the moment “Mayapedia”, being a project designed by the “Yuri Knórosov” center, is only in Russian, but the Spanish and English versions are already being prepared. To visit the site, you can enter the link http://mayapedia.ru/.
